Following Pressure, DHS No Longer Looking to Eliminate H-1B Extensions

January 9, 2018

The McClatchey DC Bureau reports that the DHS has backed away from its plan to eliminate the H-1B extensions beyond 6 years which was granted by the American Competitiveness in the 21st Century Act (AC 21).  This is welcome news for high technology employers, who may be in the midst of sponsoring highly skilled foreign national employees for permanent resident status, but due to the visa backlogs for certain countries might otherwise have no way of ensuring the employees’ continued work authorization while waiting for the green cards.

Weaver Schlenger LLP previously reported on this potential action by the government.
