USCIS Completes Random Lottery for FY 2019 H-1B Cap Cases

April 12, 2018

The USCIS announced that on 4/11/18, it used a computer-generated random selection process to select enough H-1B petitions to meet the regular cap and the U.S. master’s degree category. Unselected petitions will be rejected and returned with their filing fees.

Interestingly, the USCIS received 190,098 petitions during this year’s filing period, including petitions filed for the advanced degree exemption (compared to the 199,000 H-1B petitions received last year).

Weaver Schlenger LLP expects to receive receipt notices for selected petitions in both categories (regular and U.S. master’s degree) over the coming weeks and will confirm with clients as soon as the receipts or rejected petitions arrive.
