International Travel Not Recommended Due to Evolving Coronavirus Situation

March 12, 2020

In light of recent proclamations by President Trump and the evolving situation with the coronavirus, we are recommending against international travel for foreign national employees who are currently in the United States.

By proclamation, President Trump is suspending entry into the United States of individual immigrants or nonimmigrants who were physically present within the Schengen Area, Iran, and China during the 14-day period preceding their attempted entry into the United States. The March 11 proclamation relates to the Schengen Area, the February 29 proclamation relates to Iran, and the January 31 proclamation relates to China. Exceptions to the March 11 proclamation regarding the Schengen Area include persons aboard a flight scheduled to arrive in the U.S. that departed prior to 11:59 p.m. (Eastern time) on March 13, 2020.

Exceptions to all three of the proclamations include lawful permanent residents (LPRs) of the United States, and certain family members of U.S. citizens or LPRs, including spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21. The 26 European nations comprising the Schengen Area are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

While President Trump stated that the Schengen Area proclamation shall remain in effect for at least 30 days, it is possible that it could be extended for any length of time. No time limit has been announced for the proclamations relating to Iran and China.
